How to Find and Land Your Dream Equine Job

As the founder of the LiveEQ app, I see hundreds of job postings and job candidates’ listings every week! We are so excited about the growth in the careers section of the app we’ve experienced lately and have big ambition to grow this area even further. In support of this mission, I had the fun opportunity to join Jenn on her Horse Tip Daily podcast to give a few tips on finding and landing your dream equine job. I’ll add some highlights here, but be sure to listen to the full episode (it’s only about 8 minutes long) linked below!

1.     For finding open equine job roles, my first piece of advice is pretty simply download the LiveEQ app and keep checking our Jobs platform. Use the filters on the app to set things like salary range or job function so that you’re only seeing the jobs you want to apply for.
Second, if you notice that a stable or company is posting multiple openings but none of them are the job that you are qualified for – send them your resume anyway. A lot of times when businesses are actively hiring that means they’re generally in a growth stage which can mean that even if they haven’t carved out your perfect role in a job listing, they might still be needing your skill set as they grow – so in some cases you can kind of talk your way into creating a role in those businesses.

For landing the job, the more pre-work you do, the better chances you have. And this goes for all role types in the equestrian field.
Have a resume. Even if you are just starting out, maybe you’re looking for a working student position or an entry level job – if you have no prior work experience list your riding history, your academic achievements, volunteer work, anything that helps that employer get to know who you are as a person.

2.     Second, tailor your resume for the job you want. This is so important. Employers who get a lot of inquiries are going to scan resumes, this is just the life we lead. So put those key words that describe your skills up top. List your name, what you do, and then right away bullet points of what you’re good at. THEN after that go into your work history in standard resume format.

3.     My third and probably most unique tip is to send a video along with your resume when possible. This may seem like overkill but TRUST ME, if you have a nicely recorded video of you talking to the potential employer explaining why you’d be a good fit this will stand out in a big way. Bonus points for if you record it in the barn! You’re applying for a job in the equine industry, if you send a video to an equine recruiter showcasing yourself as a professional with equine passion who wants to take their skills to this company – you’ve got a significantly higher chance of getting a call, and getting that call quickly.

Best of luck to all of you equine candidates out there! There is nothing but opportunity ahead of you, and know that LiveEQ is behind you the entire way!
